  • Made in Gilgit Exhibition 7 - 9 May 2017, Lok Virsa, Islamabad

    The National Productivity Organization (NPO) has organized an exhibition on Made in Gilgit form 7 - 9 May 2017 in Lok Virsa, Islamabad. The exhibition was organized under “Made in Gilgit” project of the USAID Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Program (SGAFP).The objective of the exhibition was to improve productivity and socio-economic condition of 35 selected craft's persons belonging to District Gilgit by providing them opportunity for promoting and marketing their products to increase sales.
    Stalls of various products from Gilgit were show cased at the exhibition. Stalls for embroidery work, wallets, key chains, caps, stone work (sharma), wood utensils (walnut & pinewood), woolen crafts (shawls, namda, pattu, yardage), precious and semi-precious stones, metals, herbal products, honey, and dry fruit were displayed at the exhibition.
    Exhibition started at 2:00 p.m. on 7th May 2017 and large number of crowd visited stalls of exhibitors. Visitors showed keen interest in the products of Gilgit and encouraged exhibitors participation by purchasing their products.

    Opening and Ribbon Cutting by President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI)

    Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 6:30 p.m. on 7th May 2017. Mr. Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) was Chief Guest for opening and ribbon cutting of the exhibition. Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Khattak, CEO NPO along with his team members received the chief guest on his arrival in the Lok Virsa. President ICCI was accompanied by Mr. Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President, ICCI and other executive members of the ICCI.
    President, ICCI and CEO, NPO formally opened the Islamabad exhibition by ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. Afterwards, President ICCI took a round of exhibitors’ stalls and CEO, NPO briefed him about the Made in Gilgit project and its outcome. Project Coordinator explained about products offered by the exhibitors and its affiliation with the culture of Gilgit Baltistan. President, ICCI took keen interest in their products/crafts and purchased different products from the exhibitors.

    Visit by President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI)

    Mr. Raja Amer Iqbal, President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) was invited to visit the exhibition stalls on 8th May 2017 at 7:00 p.m. for encouragement of exhibitors. Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Khattak, CEO NPO along with his team members received the President RCCI in the LokVirsa. President RCCI was accompanied by Mr. Khawaja Abdul Rashid Waien, Senior Vice President, RCCI, Mr. Asim Mahmood Malik, Vice President and other executive members of the RCCI.
    President RCCI took a round of exhibitors’ stalls and CEO, NPO briefed him about the Made in Gilgit project and its outcome. He emphasized that this initiative actually marks the beginning of new phase in which Gilgit based entrepreneurs will be uplifted in terms of their businesses. He also explained about products offered by the beneficiaries and its affiliation with the culture of Gilgit Baltistan. President, RCCI took keen interest in their products/crafts, he tasted dry fruit and honey products and inquired about their experience in the Made in Giglit project.
    The exhibitors showed their satisfaction and appreciated efforts of NPO and USAID-SGAFP in making their dreams come true as these kinds of opportunities are very rare for them and required to uplift the economic condition of the Gilgit Baltistan region. President ICCI and RCCI also appreciated NPO for providing opportunities to beneficiaries from the Gilgit Baltistan for linkages development and introduce their products in the cities of Lahore and Islamabad through Made in Gilgit exhibitions.
    Daily cultural shows were arranged for entertainment of visitors and introducing them culture of Gilgit. Folk artists and musicians attired in traditional costumes performed during cultural event, giving a true reflection of the diverse culture and musical heritage of Gilgit Baltistan. Folk singers and dancers also presented different cultures of Pakistan. Visitors and exhibitors also participated in the shows and made it more entertaining.
