Annual Development Program 2020-21
Initiatives to sustain productivity growth are a central theme of the economic development policies of every country. The ability to improve the quality of products or services or to find ways to create better ones is closely related to economic transformation particularly in the backdrop of low productivity growth i.e. 1.4% for the last 17 years. NPO is proposing the following initiatives to fill the gap in productivity in Pakistan:
PSDP project on “Competing Through Sustainable National Productivity (SNP)”
The economic development in most of the Asian countries are due to sustainable productivity development i.e. utilizing productivity tools and techniques as competitive edge in every industrial and service sector organization and their processes. Sustainable national productivity is an important factor for achieving competitiveness and targeted GDP growth.
The encompassing objective of NPO is to promote productivity culture in the country so as to support the cause of competing effectively in the local and global markets. Keeping in view economic development in developed countries in Asia and our local requirements, NPO envisaged this project in phases; Phase-I, comprise of Awareness Stage and Product Design & Development Stage, and Phase-II, comprise of Implementation and Continuous Improvement stages. The project is submitted for phase-I only, while phase-II project would be dependent on products designed and finalized in phase-I. Project cost for Phase-I is 185.00 Million PKR.
In Pakistan, in order to reinvigorate the concept of Productivity for realizing it as a competitive tool, it is needed that a comprehensive Productivity movement may be launched as successfully done in other Asian developed countries like Singapore, Korea, Japan and Malaysia etc. The main stay of the economic development of these countries has been on their productive workforce and in reality these countries what so ever are exporting are actually exporting the skills of their productive workforce. The productivity movement in the above indicated countries has by and large been consisted on the following phases of their successful outcome of the movement.
The ultimate objective of the project would be to improve per-worker labour productivity growth of Pakistan from 1.4% to 4-5% within 5 years.
Phase – I
• Awareness Stage
• Product Design & Development Stage
Phase – II
• Implementation Stage
• Continuous Improvement Stage
National Productivity Master Plan
NPO intend to adopt a holistic approach to address the productivity issues in the country with the support of its stakeholders. In this regard, NPO intend to acquire support of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), Japan in developing a National Productivity Master Plan on the basis PQI Framework. It is essential that the PQI initiative be taken forward with a thrust to get the fruits of productivity to run a productivity drive at country level as the productivity drive is run by the productivity organizations like Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), Korea Productivity Center (KPC) etc. are to name a few. Hence, in the present scenario, NPO request greater support from the government in order to catch the pace of productivity drives in other countries and for improving productivity in all spheres of economy to make Pakistan Globally Competitive.
NPO to become a Certification Body under the umbrella of APO Accreditation Body
NPO intend to become a Certification Body under the umbrella of APO Accreditation Body.
