Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan


Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Industries & Production Division

Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan has a distinguished record of business success and public service. He has twice served as Senator and was two times elected as member of the Punjab Assembly.

From 2015 to 2018, he was SAPM Revenue, with the status of Federal Minister. As a Senator from 2006-2012, he served as a senior member of standing committees on (1) Finance, Economic Affairs, Revenue, Statistics and Planning and Development; (2) Commerce; (3) Industries and Production; (4) Petroleum, Natural Resources and Minerals and (5) Sports, Culture and Tourism.

An ardent believer in parliamentary oversight, he worked extensively on six federal budgets. He contributed to combating the circular debt in the energy sector. He was at the forefront in weeding out corruption in state organizations and promoting a climate of growth in Pakistan’s economy.

Mr. Haroon also worked to prevent match fixing in Pakistani cricket and to reform the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) so that cricket is governed more effectively. His public speaking ability was widely regarded in the parliament, with his annual budget speech particularly noteworthy.

Until 2015, Mr. Haroon was CEO of Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, a publicly-listed industrial conglomerate that operates sugar mills, industrial ethanol distilleries and carbon-dioxide gas production facilities. He is a director of the Board of several businesses including Tandlianwala Sugar Mills Ltd., Lotte Akhtar Beverages Pvt. Ltd. (a PepsiCo bottling franchise), Superior Textile Mills, Akhtar Fuiou Technologies Pvt Ltd, and the not-for-profit Institute for Policy Reforms. All these companies are headquartered in Lahore, Pakistan with multiple industrial units around Pakistan.

Mr. Haroon has a Master of Science in Actuarial Science and Business Administration from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (USA) and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. At the time of qualification, he became the youngest actuary in the history of the profession.
