NPO, APO and SMAP collaborated to host a workshop on "Safe and Productive Mining" in Islamabad to enhance Pakistan's potential in the salt mining industry.

The National Productivity Organization (NPO), in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the Salt Manufacturing Association of Pakistan (SMAP), organized a two-day consultative workshop on Salt Mining in Islamabad on April 14 - 15, 2025. The workshop, titled "Safe and Productive Mining" aimed to educate participants on modern mining techniques, processing, branding, and the export of high-quality salt products.
The event was graced by the presence of Asad Salam Mahni, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries & Productive Division, who served as the chief guest. Asad Salam Mahni expressed his sincere appreciation to all attendees and organizers for their contributions to the success of the workshop. He noted the significance of the diverse representation and meaningful discussions that took place during the event.
Asad Salam Mahni reiterated the ministry's dedication to supporting industry stakeholders in improving their productivity and global competitiveness. He emphasized the collective responsibility to unlock the full potential of Pakistan's salt and mining sector.
Ismail Suttar, Founder Chairman of SMAP, underscored the importance of initiatives like the workshop for the local mining community. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance the mining sector, improve extraction methods, and transform mineral resources into value-added products for increased export opportunities.
Approximately 50-60 participants from the salt and mining sector attended the workshop. The event concluded with a call to action for all attendees to share their n share their learnings and insights within their networks, fostering a multiplier effect that would benefit the industry at large.
